The origins of the Swashbuckler Trophy initiated by Dalguise regulars the Briggs party are probably best veiled in mystery, much like the rules for the winning of it. The almost casual lifting of this 9lb salmon by Gus Briggs from the slow chilly depths of the prime holding pool at Bridge must have him in the running, we reckon!

As Robin Buxton safely returns a 14lb hen fish to the water, thereby ending a 20-year gap between catches, we offer our heartiest congratulations. Not one to let the fun stop there, Robin went on to catch and return another 14lber, thereby earning himself the Swashbuckler Cup (Senior Competition) for 2017. We’re so glad for Robin – and we’re just not going to mention Jonathan’s trousers….
